Preserving Native Plant Knowledge Will Protect Their Future... Learn the wide-range of useful plants that grow wild in the New England landscape. Plants that can be used to nourish, heal and craft with specific examples of vitamin content, antioxidant ability and herbal therapy uses. Through use of images, stories of indigenous use, and contemporary scientific study, an argument is made that the waning use of wild plants (for food, medicine, fiber, etc.) is correlated with a decline in health of both our bodies and our local landscapes. Foraging, wildcrafting, medicine, and other such pursuits connect us to the wild world and create a bond, one that deepens with use. There is a critical need for preserving our native plants and their habitats.
Many of you may know our speaker as the author of New England Wild Flower Society's "Flora Novae Angliae: A Manual for the Identification of Native and Naturalized Higher Vascular Plants of New England" As such he is responsible for recent changes in nomenclature for many of our adored natives & garden species. Here we will discover another side of his botanical knowledge. He also is the author of "Ancestral Plants: A Primitive Skills Guide to Important Wild Edible, Medicinal, and Useful Plants of the Northeast". Come experience this historical knowledge with one who is developing a self-reliant lifestyle that promotes awareness and eco-conscientiousness. Arthur is practicing and sharing a neoaboriginal lifeway to foster awareness, connection, health, and self-reliance.
